Facilitating
Elementary Achievement Through Science (FEATS) 2009
Dr. Michael
Klentschy, former superintendent of El Centro School District in
California, award-winning author and international science consultant
returned to Colorado for the 2009 Facilitating Elementary Achievement
Through Science (FEATS) Summer Institute to support classroom teachers
in the introduction and implementation of science notebooks in their
classrooms.
Approximately 185 teachers, supporting principals, science and literacy
coaches, and staff developers were introduced to the components of
science notebooks along with outstanding student achievement data from
Dr. Klentschy's former district where student achievement gains were
evident in every grade level, each year after implementing science
notebook concepts districtwide. Participants also enjoyed hands-on
science workshops to implement in their own classrooms for increasing
student learning, engagement, and inquiry.
